The hostess at the B&B we stayed at said she had to start using it again after her new one broke down soon after buying it. We really enjoyed staying at this B&B the hostess Ami was easy going and friendly. More relaxing here and fastest internet so far.
We arrived in Stockholm on mid-summer’s eve which is a celebration of the summer solstice. Lots of folk dancing and singing around maypoles happens on this weekend. Everything closes down early and you could feel the excitement in the air (It is like Christmas and Australia day combined, it is a day to celebrate their nation). Ladies were intently making wreaths out of flowers and foliage in the train station awaiting their transport to the countryside.
When sitting down on a concrete bench on a cold underground subway platform Alicia had a pleasant surprise – they were heated!
Recycling - to encourage people to recycle bottles and cans they levy 1-3 Kr (16-50 cents AUD) per bottle/can which can be claimed back via a machine at grocery stores. A printed receipt is given and you get the amount deducted off your grocery bill. The best part is the crunch as the can/bottle gets shredded.
Some people just return their own bottles but other people go around collecting bottles and turn up with a large garbage bags full. Collecting bottles for some people would ensure they don’t go hungry. Although we have seen more than one well dressed retiree out for his afternoon walk looking around for bottles as well. Collecting also seems to be popular with children – we saw one boy get told off by his mother for collecting bottles when getting off a ferry. He was probably after a free chocolate bar.
