We traveled from Stockholm to Gotland via ferry – it has a hund saloon for all the dogs going on an island holiday.
Lummelundagrottan – we went on a tour of a cave which was found by 3 boys around the 1950’s. Dated to be 10,000 years old, with small limestone formations from the dripping water. It is considered a young cave and got a bit chilly after a while with a constant temperature of 8 deg underground. Also wild strawberries around the place.
Rauken – Around Gotland there are many large limestone stacks on the coastline. They all have unique shapes, some look like dogs!
We stayed in a great ‘self contained budget cabin’ at Visby Strandby. Just like a IKEA catalogue with ocean views. It had mega insulation. If the windows weren’t open to allow air flow it heated up inside pretty quick just with the lights on, even faster when cooking.
The hire car was also budget, but more budget than the cabin! We didn’t take it on an off road rally – this is how we got it. Spare tyre not included.
Driving on the wrong side of the road again was interesting especially the roundabouts. The roads on Gotland were lovely and smooth. No bumps or potholes even in the more remote places. We should get some Swedish road builders out to Australia.
